Jackson Hole Airport Runway Project Remains On-Schedule as the Airport Hits the Halfway Mark of the Runway Closure

Jackson, Wyoming – May 19th is the half-way mark for the Jackson Hole Airport Runway Project. The Airport is pleased to report the reconstruction of the runway remains on-time and on-schedule. Contractors have worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep the project moving forward as planned.

This project is one of the most environmentally respectful projects the Airport has undertaken. The runway will not be lengthened or widened during reconstruction, but 90 percent of the materials excavated on-site will be reused in the subbase for the new runway. This initiative is estimated to keep 8,500 trucks off our local roadways and will save an estimated 187,000 gallons of fuel for associated hauling. Additionally, 29,000 linear feet of U.S. made, double-walled slot drains have been installed along the entire perimeter of the new runway to allow all surface water from JAC’s runway to be collected and cleaned through the Airport’s stormwater system. Also, all runway and taxiway lights are being converted to much more efficient LED lights during the reconstruction.

“We are happy to report that we remain on target to meet our reopening on the morning of June 28th. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the engineers, contractors, and airport staff for their dedication and drive to keep the reconstruction on schedule. Their thoughtful consideration of our local ecosystem has been paramount to the project approach and design. The daily progress being made has been quite impressive to watch. Most importantly, we would like to thank our community for their patience during the airport closure and we look forward to welcoming you all back very soon,” remarked Bob McLaurin, Jackson Hole Airport Board President. The Airport is scheduled to reopen at 6am on Tuesday June 28th.
