October 14, 2024
Annually the Northwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives recognizes those individuals and companies who represent the very best in the field of aviation. During the Northwest Chapter’s Annual Meeting in Boise, Idaho held October 8-10, the following awards were presented.
The Corporate Award of Excellence was awarded to Garver. The award recognizes a company whose professionalism and recent contributions to the association and the airport industry have made a significant difference in fostering aviation. Founded in 1919, Garver is an employee-owned multidisciplined engineering, planning, and environmental services firm with more than 1,200 employees across the United States. To date, the work of Garver’s aviation staff has touched 100 commercial service airports, and over the last five years has delivered more than $3.5 billion in constructed aviation projects. Garver’s service of airports in the region is highlighted particularly by Jake Hoban, an aviation project manager at Garver with 24 years of engineering experience who is currently serving ten general aviation airports throughout Colorado. Mr. Hoban’s passion for serving airports and their communities is rooted in his understanding that they exist to serve vital general aviation operations, such as agricultural, medivac, business, tourism, and recreation.
The Aviation Excellence Award was presented to Michelle Anderson, AAE, Assistant Airport Director – Finance & Administration for the Jackson Hole Airport (WY). The award recognizes airport management professionals which have gone out of their way and given substantial extra effort to ensure the promotion, operations, maintenance, or development of aviation and/or the airport. Ms. Anderson has been an integral part of her airport’s financial stability and planning during a time of significant revenue and expense growth over the last few years. She has been instrumental in strategically planning for over $125 million in capital costs and doing so in a long-term sustainable manner. She has been involved in navigating the airport through major capital projects over the last five years, which have all been completed on or under budget. In addition, her team has been honored with the GFOA’s Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for the last three years.
The Airport Executive of the Year Award was presented to Lisa Corcoran, CM, Chief Development Officer for Spokane Airports (WA). The award is given to an airport management professional with high-level responsibility for an airport who has demonstrated superior performance in a wide variety of areas. Ms. Corcoran joined the Spokane Airports team as a project manager following a 17-year consulting career and since then has held – and excelled in – roles of increasing responsibility to now oversee all aspects of the Airport’s planning, development and environmental programs as their Chief Development Officer. Her leadership on Spokane International Airport’s TREX Program resulted in the addition 44,000 square feet of terminal, three new gates, and a new ticketing area. Her successful grant applications allowed this project to be the recipient of three rounds of BIL ATP funding enabling it to be completed on time, on budget, and with minimal debt financing.
The President’s Award of Distinction was presented to Scott Bell, PE, Airport Market Group Leader for Morrison Maierle. The President’s Award of Distinction recognizes members of the Northwest Chapter who have served the association and/or promoted aviation with uncommon dedication. Mr. Bell is known for being a consummate professional who has left his mark on over 160 projects at over 30 airports over his 44 plus year career at Morrison-Maierle. As noted by NWAAAE President Devon Brubaker, AAE, “From the moment I began my journey in Wyoming, Scott was an immediate presence, welcoming me to the State and always offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. To this day, I know that if I ever need anything personally or professionally, I can call on Scott and he would drop everything to be there.”
